Upward communication flows from the lower level to the upper level of a hierarchy. For example, employees communicating with their immediate manager, the immediate manager communicating with their reporting manager, and so on up to the board of directors or owner of the company. This form of communication helps employees express their requirements, ideas, or goals. This level 2 qualification is targeted to supervisors or team leaders in an organisation who have responsibilities and duty of care over the general health and wellbeing of colleagues. This training course describes the various elements of the ship's structure, the loads acting on the structure and the required strength of the ship's structure to sustain such loads.

Objectives

On completion of the training, students will be able to:

Know the typical structural arrangements of different ship types. Understand stiffened panels as the fundamental structural units in ship structures and know the different framing systems used in ship construction

Know the different types of loads acting on the ship's structure and understand the static sea pressure and the wave induced dynamic sea pressure. Understand the concept of net loading on the ship's structure, shear forces and bending moments. Get familiar with fatigue loads

Understand the stresses on ship's structure including longitudinal stresses on hull girder, stresses on primary supporting structure and local stresses and the strength of the ships structure. Get familiar with fatigue strength and understand the corrosion and the net scantling approach.

The Certificate of Ship's Structure Fundamentals is obtained after completing the course and passing the online test.

This guide mainly deals with issues specific to yachts, such as operations and manning standards, and what to do about them.

This online course will help you to comply with UK requirements by focusing on the guidelines set out in 'A Master's Guide to the UK Flag (Large Yacht Edition 3)', released by the UK DfT Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

The ‘Cyber Security Awareness for Vessels' course examines the Cyber Security threats that exist, both generally and specifically within the maritime environment. The course examines the weaknesses that there may be in ship IT and OT systems, and how they may be exploited - and then goes on to look at the measures that can be taken to mitigate and defend against these types of threats.
