Presentation 

This training course describes the inclining test and lightweight measurement procedures. Inclining test is a test performed on a ship to determine her stability, lightship weight and the coordinates of her centre of gravity. The test is applied to newly constructed ships greater than 24 metres in length, and to ships altered in ways that could affect stability.

Objectives 

On completion of the training, students will be able to: 

Get familiar with the stability of vessels at sea. 

Know the forces involved in the movement of ships. 

Know the types of inclination and equilibrium. 

Understand how and when to perform an inclining test or lightweight check. 

Know the precautions to be taken to perform or witness such tests

Certificate 

On completion of the training program, the student will be awarded the following qualifications:

o Certificate of Inclining Test and Lightweight Measurement awarded by Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore.

The Certificate of Inclining Test and Lightweight Measurement, issued by Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore, is obtained after completing the course and passing the qualification examination.

An important aspect of our operation is rooted in courses and training in flange work and bolted connections. We have been involved in the development of courses since OLF started their Gasslekasjeprosjekt (Gas-leakage project) in 2003, up until the updated requirements per NS-EN 1591-4 as of today.

Content:

The industries requirements in regards to training has provided improvements in the form of decrease in amounts of leakages both offshore and onshore. The executive operator gains better understanding and enhanced competence which further results in a safer work environment.

The fundamental course in flange work spans over 4 days, covering both theoretical- and practical training. Examination on both the theoretical and practical work will be conducted. Upon successful completion of the exams, a course certificate will be awarded. This certificate is valid for 5 years. To extend the validation of the certificate, a one-day refresher course must be completed before the expiration date of the certificate (within 5 years).
The refresher course prolongs the validity of the certificate for another 5 years upon completion.

The primary goal of the course is to provide necessary and required training which enables the individual to conduct independent work on flanges and bolted connections.

The course offers the attendees fundamental knowledge, inter alia:

-          Flanges

-          Clamps

-          Bolts and lubrication

-          Gaskets

-          Work Procedures

-          Understanding and safe use of hydraulic tools, torque wrench and equipment

-          Associated documents

Over 50 years ago, a social psychologist Douglas McGregor of MIT published a book outlining his research of two contrasting management styles: Theory X and Theory Y.  

He argued that Theory X, based on hierarchy and power, was an outdated authoritarian “top-down” way of managing people. Theory Y, he proposed, was an improved, alternative method of management, one that was more participative and synergistic.
