Hensikten med opplæringen er å gi blivende riggere en god praktisk grunnopplæring i sikker bruk av riggerutstyr. Opplæringen skal gi elevene god innsikt i prinsippene for riggutstyrets konstruksjon, virkemåte, bruk og vedlikehold, slik at uhell og ulykker i forbindelse med riggoperasjoner unngås. Riggoperasjon: Bruk og sammenstilling av transportabelt løfteutstyr og/ eller manuelle/ kraftdrevne vinsjer, taljer etc. som benyttes ved horisontal og/ eller vertikal forflytning av last.
