This course aims to give personnel the knowledge required to understand the hazards and controls associated with noise in the workplace.

Course Content

LO1 Describe what noise-induced hearing loss is, and identify the early warning signs and symptoms to look out for

LO2 Explain the workings of the human ear, how noise exposure causes damage, and the effects of such damage

LO3 Explain the responsibilities and duties of employers and employees under current legislation

LO4 Explain how noise is measured and identify the noise levels above which employers should take action to reduce exposure

LO5 Explain the risk assessment requirements

LO6 Identify the control measures that should be taken to reduce exposure to noise

LO7 Explain the requirements for hearing protection; how to use the different methods of hearing protection and the importance of maintaining hearing protection

LO8 Explain the importance of healthsurveillance

The course for you that must issue a work certificate according to the Norwegian Labor Authority’s regulations nr 1357 “Regulations for execution of work», and is to be registered as a Gas tester offshore or in ship yard, chemical or petro-chemical plants.

HES – datasheets and physical/chemical terms.Fire and explosion theory with practical demonstrations.Measuring principle, function and limitations for: sensors for flammable gas, oxygen and hazardous substances.Regulations and guidelines.Operation and use of gas measuring instruments.Quality control of equipment and personnel.LRA (low radioactive deposition)Measuring methods benzene.Dangers of static electricityZone classificationGas freeing and cleaning methodsDangers of H2S and benzene exposurePreparations for safe entry and correct use of protective equipment.Work permits and safe job analysis (WP/SJA)Group tasks: Develop plan for nitrogen purging, valve and blinding plan according to procedure for preparations before and after maintenance. Gas freeing: Practical group task in our mobile course container (miniature process facility).Practical and written exam
