This course covers the theoretical part of the documented safety training required for slingers and signallers. The course is also suitable as a refresher for crane operators and other personnel who have previously completed training in lifting appliances and lifting gear. The course content deals with selection, control and safe use of the most common lifting gear used in construction, industry, shipping and offshore. Signalling, communication and controlling the load are key topics of the course.

In addition, the course requires that practical training is conducted on applicable work equipment.

The course "Hose assembly – safe appliances" provides a basic introduction to the safe use of hoses and selection of fittings for different applications. Furthermore, the course focuses on the identification of fittings, as well as basic practical training in hose assembly.

After the course, participants will be able to use the hose assembly equipment in a way that maintains a safe and appropriate work process. The course is divided into a theoretical and a practical part and is concluded with a written certification test. The course is conducted according to the standard TR 1803 and Oil and Gas United Kingdom Standard.

Assessment Requirements

Delegates will be required to submit a portfolio of evidence covering all of the Performance and Knowledge Criteria for the L&D9DI Unit. They must submit, as a minimum, assessment-related documentation that provides evidence for the elements listed below, for two candidates, covering two assessments per candidate: 

• Preparing to assess 

• Planning assessments 

• Assessing candidate’s performance and knowledge 

• Confirming progression and achievement

Delegates must use a range of assessment methods, including observation, questioning and work product. 

Delegates will also need to be observed carrying out part of the assessment process by an ITB assessor and participate, with other assessors in their workplace, in standardisation practice.
